Arc Greater Twin Cities invites
neighbors and friends to an open house celebrating its move to a
new office at 2446 University Ave. W., Suite 110, in St. Paul. Arc’s
new office is located near the Mpls/St. Paul border at the intersection
of University Ave, Franklin Ave and Pelham Blvd. The open house
is an opportunity for community members to tour the office and enjoy
refreshments and door prizes.

Nov. 15
When Hurricane Katrina struck the city of
New Orleans, hundreds of people with developmental disabilities
were displaced and cut off from help. Yet direct support professionals
stayed with those they supported. For months, they worked long
hours for low pay, put others before themselves, providing care and
support with improvised resources. Please join us on Thursday to
view Higher Ground, which chronicles these events, and to check out
the newly renovated Education Sciences Building.

From graphics to word salads,
this exhibition illustrates the power of text in the work of Interact
artists. Novel and unique in their approaches, the artists use text
in a wide variety of ways. The exhibit continues the Interact Center’s goal of creating
art and challenging society’s view of disability. Friday’s
opening reception features refreshments and a studio sale.

Mental Illness Family Worksohp

NAMI-MN will hold a free,
one-day education workshop titled “Hope
for Recovery” for families who have a relative with mental
illness. Family members will find out information about mental illness,
treatment options and how to provide support.

Santa Run to Benefit Legal Aid

Run, walk or stroll a mile
and a quarter to support free civil legal services for poor and disadvantaged
Minnesotans. On run day you’ll
get your red Santa suit and white beard. Kids under 12 get a Santa
hat. There’s music and hot chocolate and more fun than anyone
has ever had in a Santa suit! You can pick up your Santa suit beginning
at 2 p.m., and don’t forget to bring a toy for the Toys for
Tots collection.

Spaghetti Dinner Benefit

Michael (Jason) Weese was
on the 35W bridge when it collapsed. He suffered multiple injuries
including a broken back. Jason and his wife, Kimberly, have two young
boys (5 years and 5 months). Jason is on short term disability but
it is not sufficient to meet their needs during this difficult time.
Join us for a dinner, bake sale and silent auction to raise money
for those costs.

Anxiety Support Group

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Minnesota
(NAMI-MN) sponsors free support groups for persons with anxiety disorders.
The groups help individuals develop better coping skills and
find strength through sharing their experiences. An Open Door Anxiety
and Panic support group meets twice monthly.

Mind Fields Exhibit

psychological realities tangible. Art & Healing: Mind Fields is a unique opportunity
to see the mind from the inside out. This new exhibit from Intermedia
Arts takes a frank and creative look at neurological and mental health—inviting
local artists and health care practitioners to address the ways in
which artistic expression can be used as a tool for healing.
