I support protecting
the Americans with Disabilities Act, Social Security, and Medicare.
Although the budget has been balanced, too often it has been done
at the expense of individuals truly in need. I support the adoption
of universal health care. Since I was a caregiver for my parents
for 15 years, I understand the importance of community-based supports.
Notably, I would finance needed improvements in education and health
care without raising taxes or incorporating fees. Instead, I plan
to fund these improvements in part by getting oil companies to
refund nearly $2 billion of their record profits plus generate
another $2 billion by innovatively bolstering the state’s
tourism, art, and entertainment industry. In addition, I would
explore regulating the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries
to control health-care costs by ensuring they are not exploiting
Americans to reap record profits or outrageous salaries and benefits,
such as those of William McGuire, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group.
I feel that many in the oil, pharmaceutical and insurance industries
have been greedy and selfish.
