Modernization Act Fails to
Clear
There was a lot of interest
in the U.S. Senate debate over The Health and Insurance Marketplace
Modernization Act (Senate 1955). (See last month’s article “Congress
Debates Cuts to Vital Health Care Benefits” by John Tschida.)
Since the bill did not get the 60 votes needed to stop a Democratic
filibuster, it’s likely dead for
the year.
Although the Chamber of Commerce
and others are pushing hard for the Republican leadership to bring
the bill up again this year, the crowded congressional schedule and
pending election make that prospect unlikely.
