Correction to the Protest Alert! Article

I wanted to inform you about a mistake we made in one sentence in the article for Access Press. We wrote, “This means that an estimated 54 million Americans, a population roughly the size of France, are living in bodies that according to Peter Singer should have been killed upon birth.” When we originally wrote this statement, it was following an argument that Singer opens a slippery slope of where this needs to stop, given the history of eugenics as applying to all people with disabilities.

However, during the process of editing we rearranged things so that this became unlinked from the original point we had intended. We did not mean to claim that Singer himself advocates for the euthanizing of 54 million Americans, but our concern remains that if we make infanticide legal, all people born with any degree of disability might be at risk.

We are really sorry about this mistake.
