Disability Community Protests on
University of Minnesota Campus

On Thursday, March 23, 2006,
members and allies of the disability community gathered in front
of the Ted Mann Concert Hall to protest philosopher Peter Singer.
Members of the Disabled Student Cultural Center, The Arc of Minnesota,
Advocating Change Together, and many others joined together in
the first disability-related protest on campus in over ten years.
The event was on the front page of the Minnesota Daily. It was

Access & Equality: Athletes with Disabilities
are People Too!

In February of 2006 a student
athlete with Autism from Rochester, Minnesota was given an opportunity
to play basketball with the varsity team of his high school at the
end of the team’s last home game of the season. The student’s
name is Jason Mcelwain. Jason has a passion for basketball and served
as the team’s student manager for several years. Jason proceeded
to score 20 points by making 6 three point shots in a row and a two
