Finding a “House Call” In
the Twin Cities
by Lisa Schmidtke
Hopefully, after reading
the December column on grocery delivery, you avoided the holiday
rush at the grocery store and enjoyed having your favorite cuisine
delivered right to your doorstep. And, if the column didn’t entice you, maybe the 10 inches of snow we received
made Johnny’s Dairy Delivery sound quite appealing. Now that
the holidays are over, we’re left with fond memories, feelings
of comfort and joy and…a huge mess! It’s time for another “house
call.”
Professional Cleaning Services
When
the subject of having a “cleaning lady” comes up
with my friends, my first impulse is to feel guilty about the two
times per month that I walk in the door to a Pine Fresh Scent and
dog hair-free floors. But this simple resource helps me maintain
my values of having a clean home, happy marriage and quality time
with my children. These values were also important to (in the words
of Tom Brokaw) “The Greatest Generation,” but many are
physically unable to perform cleaning duties. Now comes the issue
of finding a high quality, reasonable cleaning service.
First, ask your neighbors.
A person not contracted through a professional cleaning service
will often be cheaper and more accommodating, especially if they’re already in your neighborhood. If your neighbors
don’t want to admit they have a cleaning person, try Cleaning
Authority or Molly Maid. They are both established companies with
detailed house cleaning packages. If you’re a senior, organizations
such as Common Sense Services for Seniors, Provenience Senior Concierge
Services and Senior Community Services offer housecleaning and light
chore services, some on a sliding fee scale. Many seniors enjoy the
company as well and caregivers appreciate that someone is scheduled
to “check in.”
If maintaining a clean
household isn’t an issue for you, maybe
you could still use some help organizing your boxes of holiday decorations
and putting your house back together. Organize Plus and Home & Life
Organization are both local companies that can reduce your stress
and bring order back into your life.
Once you’ve made the commitment to enjoy a clean house without
the stress and risk of injury, shop around, interview service providers
and select an option that you’re comfortable with and that
meets your cleaning standards.
