Medtronic Proud to Host MN Career Development for the 21st Century

Medtronic, Inc., is proud to be the lead company for the Minnesota Business Leadership Network, an employer-led endeavor that promotes best employment practices and enhances competitive employment opportunities for skilled candidates with disabilities.

Minnesota Career Development for the 21st Century will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at Medtronic World Headquarters, 710 Medtronic Parkway in Fridley. The event will focus on a state-wide effort to promote career development for students with disabilities through hands-on career exploration. The goal of this event is to promote disability as a central component of diversity recruitment resulting in a more inclusive workforce.

Jennifer Sheehy Keller will be the keynote speaker for the event. Ms. Keller is the President’s appointed Special Assistant for Employment to the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS) and Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration in the US Department of Education.

The Minnesota Business Leadership Network is a proud host of Mentoring Day 2005. This national focus began in 1999 and is a partnership of private, non-profit, governmental and educational organizations. Along with Medtronic, participating companies include 3M, Ameriprise Financial (formerly American Express), Bon Appetit Catering, Cargill, Deloitte, Fairview Health Services, Microsoft, The Federal Executive Council of Agencies, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and the State of Minnesota.

This event is open to people with disabilities that are 18-years-old and older, and currently planning to enroll in college or a technical program, enrolled in post-secondary training including college, university, or technical school, and to those who have recently graduated from post-secondary programs. Registration is required for this event. Registration information can be found at www.mnbln.org. Space is limited and there is no cost for student participation. The registration deadline is October 19, 2005. Lunch will be provided and participants must provide their own transportation.
