Instant Searchable Access to Expert
Advocates
Over 6.5 million children in the United States receive special education
services. However, of these children, 43% FAIL to successfully complete
high school by receiving either a diploma, modified diploma, or certificate
of completion.
Families live in a constant state of conflict - fighting to obtain
the services guaranteed their child under federal law (Individuals
with Disability Education Act, 2004). Often these families struggle
alone, unsure who to call or where to turn.
While many free and fee based organizations offer advocacy services,
many lack the resources needed to let families know where they are.
Now Ideal Lives has published an online directory of experienced,
professional advocates that can help these families successfully
navigate the special education maze.
“Professional services of any kind can be expensive, but I
believe that every child is entitled to an appropriate education
regardless of their family income. To ensure that no family is left
out or left behind, our directory lists both volunteer and fee-based
experts—willing and able to support families in their time
of need,” says Lisa Simmons, Director of the Ideal Lives Project,
sponsor of the online directory.
The Ideal Lives Advocate Directory currently lists advocates across
the United States, both by state, as well as, a listing of those
who offer nationwide services. The directory is continuing to grow
and advocates not currently listed can complete a directory application
available at the website.
