up with Magnifying Abilities to launch the new chapter. Location:
Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative, Room 123, 401 East Fourth Street

Adults with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities
who live in Carver County have a new opportunity to make friends
and have fun while developing community-living skills. People First
is an organization for adults with mental retardation and related
developmental disabilities who want to become better at speaking
for themselves and more active and independent in community life.
Meetings are held once a month. Each meeting features a specific
topic and a speaker, with an opportunity for discussion after the
presentation.
People First is run by its
members, so self-advocates who join the Carver County chapter will
decide where and when they will meet and determine the topics they
want to explore. The April meeting will also feature a presentation
about self-advocacy and what it means. If you have questions about

wide variety of recreation and leisure programs available
in the metro area and how families can take advantage of
these opportunities when an adult family member has a disability.
The guest speaker will be Nicole White, therapeutic recreation
specialist with the City of Eden Prairie Parks and Recreation
Department.
Caregiver Connections:
Long-Term Vistas is an information and support network for
parents and caregivers of adults over age 21 with mental retardation
and related developmental disabilities. It’s an
opportunity to gain valuable information, discuss issues and
make friends with others who share common concerns and experiences.

Zippity Zoo Day at Como Park Zoo, St Paul. The

or care-giver. All ages are encouraged to participate. Registration

a.m. Activities include touring the zoo, a talent show, face
painting, riding the carousel, visiting the conservatory, designing
