This titanic clash between the British House of Lords and a bevy of woodland fairies asks whether a 25-year-old man with an 18-year-old mother can marry a ward of chancery, and whether politics should be carried out by anyone with any intelligence. After turning in some of his best music, Mr. Sullivan was knighted by Queen Victoria. After seeing how Mr. Gilbert treated the British aristocracy in Iolanthe, one can understand why Mr. Gilbert had to wait until she died.
