Zippity Zoo Day

The third year was a charm for the 40 or so participants in this year’s Zippity Zoo Day.  Organized by United Cerebral Palsy of Minnesota (UCP), the event brought together those who use communication devices for a day at Como Zoo.

After heavy rain the first year and extreme heat last year, the mild weather on June 27 was conducive to a good time.  “The goal of the day,” says UCP Executive Director Jo Ann Erbes, “is to provide a social experience for people using communication devices.  Many times, kids are the only ones in their school who use a communication device, and this event lets them meet other device users.”

Minnesota’s zoo event is one in a national network of similar events sponsored by a manufacturer of communication devices, DynaVox Systems.  UCP distributes these and other devices to people with a broad range of disabilities and communication needs—not just those with cerebral palsy.  For more info, call UCP at (651) 646-8085 or e-mail ucpmn@cpinternet.com.
