Disabling a Population by Mel Duncan UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan observed that the nature of war has drastically
changed over the past century. One hundred years ago, 90 percent of
the casualties of war were combatants. Today, over 75 percent of the
casualties are civilians. Tragically, he underestimates the victims
of the current war on Iraq . . . |

The Time of My Life by Derek VanderVeen Years
ago, back when I first began my recovery from the injuries I suffered
as a result of an auto accident, I learned about setting goals. Setting

I fell and managed to break my ankle in two places and tear loose a

in a wheelchair, and use of a walking cast, crutches and walker followed
the break. .

SSA Out ... Social Security In If you live in a small
Wisconsin city about 50 miles north of Milwaukee and like to play
softball, the SSA might be the Sheboygan Softball Association. If
your hobby is flying gliders, you probably would say SSA stands for
the Soaring Society of America. And if you are into earthquake studies,
SSA is the Seismological Society of America. .

Movie Commentary by Julia Socha I
am very disheartened by how individuals with disabilities are portrayed
(or, in this case, referred to) in the movies and on television. I
believe that these references perpetuate the negative images that individuals
with disabilities have fought hard
