As computers, educational software, and on-line learning courseware become more commonplace in today=s educational environments, there is a growing need to address the accessibility of these technologies for students with disabilities.

The PACER Simon Technology Center, ADA Minnesota and Great Lakes ADA are sponsoring a half-day workshop addressing the topic of accessible information technology in K-12 settings.

Who should attend:  Educators, administrators and policy-makers, guidance counselors, transition specialists, technology specialists, disability advocates and individuals with disabilities and their families.

This introductory workshop will answer the following questions related to accessible information technology in schools:

  • What is accessible information technology?
  • How does accessible information technology in schools support better academic and career outcomes for students with special needs?
  • What is the relationship between accessible information technology and assistive technology?
  • How does accessible information technology benefit all students?
  • Are schools required by law to provide accessible information technology?
  • Does state or district policy address accessible information technology?
  • What steps can my school take to improve accessibility to information technology?

This workshop will be presented by Annette Cerreta and Janet Peters of the PACER Simon Technology Center.  There is no cost for this workshop, but registration is required.  To register or for further information, please contact the PACER Center at 952-838-9000 or TTY 952-838-0199.
